Smokey Mountain Chew is Getting Amped for the 2014 Kroger 250 and Johnny Sauter

Excitement is building as we approach the 31st Annual NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.  Our team at Smokey Mountain is all the more amped because  we thoroughly enjoy any chance to watch tough, rugged trucks go fender-to-fender at top speeds, and this year we have a new driver to call our own.  The Kroger 250 will be the first of six races that Smokey Mountain Chew will be sponsoring last year’s race winner and Truck Series veteran, Johnny Sauter.

Sauter comes from the small town of Necedah, Wisconsin and follows in the tire marks of his father, NASCAR legend, Jim Sauter.  Jim instilled his passion and competitive nature into his children.  Out of the twelve Sauter children, Johnny and two of his brothers, Tim and Jay, took up the exhilarating sport.   Although Sauter didn’t begin racing until after high school graduation, he proved to be a natural.  The thrill that comes with racing a truck up against the nation’s most skilled drivers was something he couldn’t pass up.  For the past five years, Sauter has raced for the Ohio-based, ThorSport Racing team and has finished in the top-10 each year.  Last year, Sauter scored wins in the first two races of the season, including his second win in the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. The 35-year-old driver went on to lead 62 laps, claim one pole, three wins, nine top-five and 14 top-10 finishes en route to a fourth-place finish in the final Truck Series points standings.

The Kroger 250 will rev into Martinsville on March 29 and the defending race winner, Johnny Sauter, will be the one to watch.

So get your boys together, throw in a Smokey Mountain lipper and hoot and holler as some of the nation’s best truck drivers go head-to-head around the fast half-mile paperclip.
