As I wrap up my short summer break from tournament competition, I’m packing my rig for six straight tournaments spread across the entire country. July was a fun month at home, full of short trips to local lakes and barbecuing with family and friends. As much as I love the down time, I start to get the itch to compete after being away from the tournament scene for a couple weeks. With events coming up on some of the country’s top northern fisheries, I can’t wait to launch my Nitro boat and get the juices flowing again.
Our next event, the sixth of the Bassmaster Elite Series season, will be held on the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York. The fishery suits my style of fishing, and I was fortunate enough to be in the top 10 the last time we fished there. Before I get to make a cast, I’ll have to tow my rig from Arizona to New York. The drive is a full three days… Not my idea of fun! While traveling the country as a tournament angler, each trip has it’s own set of adventures. Things don’t always go as planned, and when you are driving 2000+ miles between events, you never know what you will come across. However, the drive will be soon forgotten after setting the hook on the first big smallmouth bass of the week.
The truck and boat are loaded with tackle, extra rods and reels, food, drinks, and boxes of Smokey Mountain snuff samples. A few more days and I’ll be on the road. If you happen to see me in route or at the event, don’t be a stranger! I’m always happy to share a can of snuff and fishing story with you!
